Maysa Mohamed, born in 1964 in Jableh, Syria, was a distinguished painter whose expressive, emotionally resonant works navigated the depths of identity, memory, and cultural belonging. Educated at the University of Fine Arts in Damascus (class of 1984), her early career spanned television direction and anchoring before she transitioned to visual arts, channeling her storytelling gifts onto canvas.
Her signature Maqam Al‑Saba series—launched in 2017 at The St. Regis Dubai and later shown in Venice and Zurich—was celebrated for its haunting portraits and vibrant narratives that convey the resilience of the human spirit amid cultural upheaval. Critics praised her ability to evoke profound emotion, especially through her depictions of eyes as windows to the soul.
Over her exhibition career, she held solo shows such as Maqam Al Saba in Venice, Zurich, and Dubai, and participated in numerous group and charitable exhibitions across London, Dubai, Harstad (Norway), and beyond. In November 2024, her legacy was honored through “Remembering Maysa Mohammed,” a memorial exhibition in Damascus and Dubai.
Maysa’s work remains a powerful testament to the endurance of identity and beauty amidst adversity, securing her place among influential Syrian artists of her generation.
